Admission Steps and Conditions

1. Enrollment Process

1.1. Initial Engagement at the Front Desk:

  • Prior to starting the enrollment process, parents are offered a tour around the school. During the tour, staff explains the American educational system, the school fees, and the admission procedures.
  • If parents find the terms acceptable, they are invited to schedule an appointment to submit their application and arrange for the admission tests.

1.2. Procedure at the Student Affairs Department:

  • Online Application: Parents fill out an online application form with all necessary details about the student.
  • Application Fees Payment: Parents pay the application fees at the Finance Department and submit the receipt to the Student Affairs Head (SAH).
  • Admission Tests Appointment: The SAH schedules an appointment for the student to take Math and English admission tests.
  • Test Review and Feedback: The admission tests are reviewed and corrected by the Heads of Department (HODs), after which they are returned to the SAH.
  • Test Report and Feedback: The HOD fills out a report and provides feedback to the School Principal.
  • Oral Interview Appointment: The SAH schedules an oral interview with the School Principal to assess the student’s academic level.
  • Notification to Parents: If the student passes the interview, the SAH sends an official email to the parents with feedback and a list of required documents to be submitted within two weeks.
  • Tuition Fees Payment: The SAH issues a demand note/pay bill for the tuition fees to be paid at the Finance Department.
  • Registration: The SAH registers the student in the school’s registrar system and at the Ministry of Education (MoE) website.
  • Document Filing: The SAH/Clerk files all documents, ensuring they are scanned and stored as both hardcopy and soft copy in the school system.
  • Preparation of Student’s Register: The Student Affairs Department ensures the student’s registration is completed and ready one week before the start of the school year.

2. Admission Exams:

At the International Schools of Kenana, we assess the academic readiness of new students through two admission tests: English and Mathematics. These tests help us evaluate the student’s current level in these core subjects and ensure they are placed in the appropriate grade level.

2.1. English Admission Test

The English test is designed to assess the student’s proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehension. It helps us determine the student’s ability to engage with the English-language curriculum.

The English admission test typically includes:

  • Reading Comprehension: Students will read passages and answer related questions to demonstrate their understanding.
  • Grammar and Vocabulary: Questions will assess the student’s understanding of basic grammar rules and vocabulary.
  • Writing: Students are asked to write a short essay or respond to a prompt to evaluate their writing skills and ability to express themselves in English.

Duration: Approximately 60 to 90 minutes

2.2. Mathematics Admission Test

The mathematics test is designed to assess the student’s proficiency in basic arithmetic and mathematical reasoning. This test helps us gauge the student’s ability to work with numbers and understand mathematical
concepts.

The mathematics admission test may include:

  • Arithmetic: Basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Word Problems: Questions that test the student’s ability to apply math concepts to real-life situations.
  • Problem Solving: Tasks that assess logical thinking and the ability to solve more complex mathematical problems.

Duration: Approximately 60 minutes

2.3. Test Administration

  • Scheduling: The English and Mathematics admission tests are scheduled by the Student Affairs Department once the application has been submitted and the application fee has been paid.
  • Preparation: While the tests are designed to assess the student’s current academic level, we recommend that students review basic English and Math concepts ahead of time. We do not require any specific study materials or prep courses.

2.4. Test Results and Next Steps

  • After the tests are completed, the results will be reviewed by the relevant department heads. Parents will be informed about the test outcomes, and if the student passes, they will proceed to the next steps in the enrollment process, which includes an oral interview with the School Principal.
  • If the student does not meet the required proficiency level, the School Principal or Student Affairs Head will discuss next steps with the parents, which may include additional support or retesting options.
